Photography
& Visual Business Partner
I’m Darren Leigh Roberts, a Sydney-based professional photographer with more than 25 years of freelance photography experience.
Photography has been part of my life from an early age. Growing up with a father who was also a photographer gave me an early understanding of image-making, but experience has taught me that professional photography is about much more than operating a camera.
It is about understanding people, businesses, environments and what each client needs their images to achieve.
Today, through DLRPHOTO, I work as a visual business partner for businesses, organisations, agencies and project teams requiring professional photography, videography and visual content.
More Than 25 Years Behind the Camera
Throughout my career, I’ve worked across an unusually broad range of assignments.
My experience includes:
- Commercial photography
- Corporate photography
- Construction & infrastructure
- Events and media
- Advertising and marketing
- Product photography
- Portraits
- Public relations
- Editorial photography
- Aerial photography
- Videography
- Time-lapse
This variety has taught me how to adapt quickly to different people, locations and working environments.
Whether I’m photographing a CEO in a corporate office, people on an active project site or an important moment at a media event, my approach remains professional, flexible and focused on the client’s brief.
Experience with Leading Brands & Organisations
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of Australian and international organisations.
Selected clients have included:
Sony, News Limited, Sydney Opera House, Nestlé, Lockheed Martin, Abergeldie, Australian Rail Track Corporation, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Nespresso, Foxtel and major Australian television networks.
Working across different industries has given me a strong understanding of how businesses use professional imagery for marketing, communications, media, annual reports, projects and brand development.
Every client is different, so every assignment is approached around its own requirements rather than using a standard formula.
Comfortable Working with People
A large part of photography is knowing how to work with people.
During my career, I’ve photographed business leaders, public figures, entertainers, artists and everyday people from many different backgrounds.
Not everyone is naturally comfortable in front of a camera.
My job is to create an environment where people can relax while still producing imagery that meets the professional requirements of the assignment.
That ability to adapt has become an important part of how I work.
Qualified for Challenging Environments
Some photography assignments require more than creative experience.
DLRPHOTO regularly works across commercial, civil, rail, construction and infrastructure environments where appropriate site qualifications and safety awareness are essential.
My current credentials include:
- CASA Approved Drone Chief Pilot
- RePL and ReOC credentials
- White Card
- Working at Heights
- Confined Space
- Rail Industry Worker / RISI
- Professional insurance and public liability
- Civil, rail and infrastructure access qualifications
I have also worked as an accredited professional photographer and Nikon advocate/lecturer.
These qualifications allow me to combine professional visual production with the practical requirements of more demanding project environments.
My Approach to Photography
I see myself as a photographer and a visual problem solver.
Good photography should have a purpose.
For a business, that may mean strengthening its brand.
For a construction company, it may mean documenting years of work.
For an event, it may mean capturing moments that cannot be repeated.
For a marketing team, it may mean creating a reliable library of visual content.
Whatever the brief, I focus on three things:
1.
Professionalism.
Respecting the client, project and working environment.
2.
Reliability.
Delivering consistent work and being someone clients can depend on.
3.
Flexibility.
Adapting to different briefs, locations, people and challenges.
These principles have helped DLRPHOTO build long-term professional relationships throughout the years.

The objective is to understand what your business needs and develop the right visual solution around it.
Depending on the project, this may include photography, drone imagery, videography, time-lapse or a combination of services.
